Sodalite Prong Mount (Old Stock)

Set in a .999 fine silver custom mount handcrafted by Jim Rice. This deep-blue, translucent specimen has an impressive story to tell. Circa 1999, Mr. Rice received a phone call from a sculptor's widow inquiring if he would be interested in purchasing a block of what she thought to be lapis lazuli, which had been in her husband's collection for more than forty years. Upon arriving to pick up the stone, Jim discovered it to be a solid cubic foot of sodalite. Around the year 2000, he hired the late Archy Ammerman to cut the material into slabs and cut cabochons that could be set as jewelry. Ammerman remarked that he had not seen this rare quality of sodalite in several decades. Unlike most sodalite, this specimen is semi-translucent, creating a variety of different shades and hues as the light shines on and through it. This remarkable story and the rarity of this beautiful variety of sodalite earns this piece its place in our 30th Anniversary Collection. Each prong of this .999 fine silver setting has been carefully hand-filed to a delicate point, adding to the refined beauty of this one-of-a-kind pendant. In addition to the artist's initials and the .999FS quality mark, this setting has been stamped "3X" to designate that it belongs to our 30th Anniversary Collection.
