Bronze Byzantine Coin Mount

Set in a .999 fine silver custom mount hand-forged by Jim Rice. Hailing from the reign of the Byzantine Emperor Constantine X (1059-1067 A.D.), this coin is known an "Anonymous Follis" because the obverse side bears the image of Jesus Christ, the Heavenly King, instead of the current earthly king. The reverse side (excellently showcased on the front of this pendant) bears the Greek words "ISXS BASILE BASIL," translating to "Jesus Christ King of Kings." These coins were produced from bronze discs that were struck on hand-carved dies, resulting in rounded, somewhat freeform shapes, such as the one used in this piece. This pendant provides the unique opportunity to wear a piece of history from a remarkably pivotal period, and it can serve as an excellent introduction to a conversation concerning the faith that dramatically shifted from being persecuted to being held in national honor. 35mm x 30mm.
